- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2016I've been using this tool for about eight months on a regular basis with no problems. The pin has flattened out a LITTLE bit, but it's still perfectly usable and takes on even rusty chains without much difficulty. The plastic construction keeps it light weight and probably has something to do with the affordable price. It's super sturdy and I don't think it would be any better served with a metal body versus the plastic one. Pick this up if you need a basic chainbreaker for everyday repairs. Not pro quality, but perfect for someone like me and the great majority of armature wrenchers.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2013if your the type of person who likes to use things once then throw them away, then this is perfect for you, because thats what you will do if you buy this
first, the pins to hold the chain in place were bent/deformed, so the spacing was not the proper size and the chain did no set in it easily, or properly, had to use plyers to force the chain into position so the pin lines up properly with the pin extractor..... then after about 3 links the threads stripped out on the extractor thing. the tool seams to be made out of cast metal, not milled. so its not very good quality, and that sets in a plastic shell.
got a 5$ bell brand chain tool from walmart as a replacement for this on the same day this showed up and broke. it was half the price, and all milled metal, even cam with an extra link and a master link, and even has a hexagon shape to use in a vice or with wrenches if you cant hold the tiny tool....
if you absolutely must spend 10$ on a chain tool, just save yourself the time and buy 2 bell chain tools and give one to a friend, you will get MUCH MUCH more for your money, and im sure your friend will appreciate it
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2014Only works on regular bike chains. I initially bought it for my motor bike, but was too small for the chain but for my regular bike projects it gets the job done fast and easy. It feels cheap in your hand but it does what the job you have in task for it
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2013Bought one of these based on reviews rather than forking out $20 at a local bike shop, or paying the shop to install a new chain for me. I'm very happy with this purchase.
The function is simple and pretty much idiot-proof. Popped the rivets out of my new chain with ease, allowing me to shorten it to the proper length.
The housing seems very durable; I definitely don't feel like it's going to break - ever. The weak point is the pin at the end of the screw. There was some marring of the tip of the tool's pin after use, which leads me to believe that this may not be suitable for everyday shop use, but it should work fine as an occasional home use tool.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2015Probably the best chain tool for the price. I upgraded to this one when my cheaper all-metal one had its pin bent after maybe a year and a half of use. The difference is amazing. The chain pin is so much easier to line up with this one and there isn't a second screw to mess around with. This one is mostly plastic but the important parts are metal and I don't think the plastic used here is extremely weak. It should hold up to regular use, just don't drop a brick on it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2013Seems to work on bicycle chains, however, not on moped chains.
I bought a 49cc engine kit from ebay. It came with a chain and sprocket to install on a bicycle.
The chain is too thick, and doesn't fit the tool.
2 stars, because it seems to be made from good plastic.
-3 stars because it doesn't work (which is probably my own fault, for not researching the chain's size).
If you want to adjust your bicycle chain, do it with this!
Mopeds, scooters and motorcycles, use another tool.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2014Product was delivered quickly, and this product works as intended. I was able to quickly repair a chain that had broken a few days before I placed this order.
Even though this was relatively cheap, I've found it to be well built and relatively durable. Truly an indispensable tool for any cyclist.
Also, it's a good idea to look up a tutorial for using similar tools to get a feel for chain tools (I didn't look it up first and ended up pushing out the pin, big no-no).
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2013This thing looks cool and works really well. I had to buy one to adjust the chain on my home made moped. It worked great to shorten the chain and to even put links back in when i shortened it too much. I would recommend this to any one in need of such a tool.
