Product Description

Park Tool CC-3.2 Bicycle Chain Checker
A worn bicycle chain can cause poor shifting and in time can even cause excessive wear to the derailleur and rear cogs, causing a much more expensive problem. That's why bike component manufacturers recommend chain replacement at regular wear intervals. The Park Tool CC-3.2 is a go/no-go gauge designed to accurately indicate when a chain reaches 0.5% and 0.75% wear (or "stretch"), the points at which most chain manufacturers suggest replacement. The CC-3.2 is long, accurate and features permanent measurement markings. The CC-3.2 works on most derailleur chains* from 5 to 12-speed. For 5-to-10-speed chains, replace chain just as the gauge fits the 0.75% side fits flat into the chain. For 11 and 12-speed chain, replace as the 0.5% side fits. Check with manufacturer for specific replacement instructions.
*NOTE: For SRAM AXS 12-speed road chains, use the Park Tool CC-4.
How to Read the CC-3.2
<0.5% Wear
This chain has less than 0.5% wear, which is acceptable on all derailleur and single-speed drivetrains.
≥0.5% Wear
This chain has at least 0.5% wear. 11-to-12-speed chains should be replaced at or before this measurement.
≥0.75% Wear
This chain has at least 0.75% wear. 5-to-10-speed chains should be replaced at or before this measurement.
Park Tool offers several options for measuring chain wear, depending on your needs and drivetrain components:

- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2025Package Quantity: 1Color: Black SetVerified PurchaseI use 0.5mm for my 8 speed chains.
As soon as the hardened surfaces of the chain parts are worn out (removed), they must be replaced.
The rate of the metal removal would be dramatically high after the thin layer of the surfaces are removed, and ruins the whole drive train in a very short time.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2015Package Quantity: 1Color: Black SetVerified PurchaseMy Trek hybrid only has 600 miles on it and I am planning a short tour (5 days/200 miles) in October. I knew I needed a spare chain for the ride and I ordered one at the same time as I got this tool. I got this little simple Park Tool gauge in yesterday which I got for a lifetime of biking as I always needed one. I previously used the eyeball/measuring method which does work but this tool is very accurate and gives one a 'feel' for the chain with the dual measurements that it provides.
So when I got it in I gauged my chain on the lower tensioned side and low and behold the .5% side fell right in. The .75% was very close to doing the same. I was a bit taken aback with the low miles on the chain that it was already this stretched. It was still within tolerances but it was close. The chain was a Shimano and it was the original. I maintain my bikes and clean/lube the chains on a regular basis and use wet ceramic Pro lube. It was what it was though and I verified with the measure method...almost 1/16" stretch in a 12" run. Time for a new chain.
So as soon as the new chain came in it went on the bike. Now the original Shimano is fitted with a master link and will be the spare for my upcoming trip. As a confirmation of this tool I gauged the new chain on the bike under tension and the .5% isn't even close to going in. I checked my daughters chain and she is in good shape. This gauge is quick, light, handy and accurate. Get one and measure often because a stretched chain will wear your cassette and chainring teeth which will cost you big in the long run. This is especially true for those of us who ride in remote locations and find ourselves far from home while depending on the bike to get us back home or somewhere to else shelter.
Highly recommended for cyclists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attrezzo affidabile, semplice e perfetto
Consigliatissimo.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's another great Park Tool!
Package Quantity: 1Color: Black SetVerified PurchaseWhat's not to like about this item? This chain wear indicator provides a very precise idea of how much wear one's chain has. In this way, one can easily gauge when his or her chain needs to be replaced, which can end up saving a lot of money in cassette replacement down the road.
The Park Tool chain wear indicator is more expensive than other off-brand chain wear indicators on Amazon, but in my opinion this one is worth the added expense. Most wear indicators on Amazon test for a chain stretch of either 0.75 or 1%, but this one from Park Tool checks for 0.5 or 0.75% stretch instead. The 0.5% measurement is especially useful for chains that are designed for cassettes with more than 10 cogs, which includes a lot of road bikes. Unless one primarily rides something like a single-speed bike, the Park Tool is way more versatile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Herramienta indispensable
