Anodized and smooth running
If definitely helps to use the right tool for the job you're doing, the headset press is absolutely a tool that I don't want to cobble together. The anodized parts are great and seem like high quality pieces, everything runs together smoothly and the thrust bearings help to keep everything from binding up. My only issue with this press is that the anodized top threaded piece doesn't have a hole in the top of it for the threaded rod to pass through, so it only has about an inch or so of travel before it bottoms out, meaning you have to use a wrench and tighten the nut down to force everything together. I feel like you can probably get more leverage if you tighten the nut instead of the top cap, so that becomes less relevant and not really an issue. Overall, I would recommend this bearing press because of the high quality anodized pieces, thrust bearings to keep everything from binding up, and the small and complete package.

    I built my own version of this with the well documented instructions online, and it worked (poorly) for maybe a handful of times. Honestly, the hassle of finding the correct hardware and using a janky version of this tool makes the cost of this pretty palatable. Seems well built, I will update if anything changes with its durability.
