Strong, Well-priced Pedal Wrench

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2013I know that people swear by PARK Tools for repairing bikes, but for the $12 that I paid for this SUNLITE pedal wrench, this is a case where it outshines the PARK pedal wrench for features, yet in the same price range. This wrench is long (just over 12 inches long), and hefty. The wrench has three different nut sizes built in, one end is 15 and 16 mm and the other end is 15 and 17 mm, AND this wrench has offset ends which allows you to get a better bite on the pedal nut to secure it better to the crank arm. The PARK wrench is only 15 mm and has no offset. This SUNLITE wrench even has a hole drilled into one end of it so you can hang it on a pegboard with all of your other bike tools. I went by price for a pedal wrench, after all how often do you really use a pedal wrench? I lucked out on choosing this wrench instead of buying the limited feature PARK. Who knows, someday I might need a 16 or 17 mm wrench and I will be prepared.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2018amazing! After struggling with all sorts of wrenches and pliers, I was ready to bring my son's bike to a shop and have them change out the pedals at any expense... I thought I'd give one more try and bought this tool, figuring if it worked, it would be cheaper than going to a shop... and if it didn't, I'd return it.
Well... one tug with this tool and the pedal started to unscrew! Seriously - couldn't be easier! Both pedals, which were screwed on amazingly deep by whoever put them on, came off without any effort.
Putting the new pedals on was a little more challenging, mostly because of leverage. I found that I could put a hammer between the pedals and the bike frame to stop the pedals from spinning as I tightened them.
10 minutes later I was done! I highly recommend this tool!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2016Okay, I'm rather new to fixing up bikes, but I do know tools. I can say, this is a very good, solid tool. Not heavy, , but has goof weight for leverge and not worry too much about snapping. Only reason it's not 5 stars is I've only used it a few times , so we will see how it lasts over time. But I'm pretty confident in it.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2013I ordered this product to remove the pedal on a bike, and was so excited for it to come in the mail. When the large envelope arrived, however, it was empty. I was slightly bummed about having to continue to wait to switch out pedals on the bike. Anyway, I called customer service and explained that I received the package, but that the pedal wrench was missing from the package. The woman who helped me was extremely nice and patient. They offered either a refund, or the shipment of a new one. I opted for a shipment of another one, since I still needed to change pedals on the bike. It arrived and I am very grateful. In addition to the customer service being exceptional, the quality of the pedal wrench was beyond what I had anticipated.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2018This does the job. I attempted to remove my Shimano SPD clipless pedals with an allen key and put all my weight on it but couldn’t get those pedals loose. I bought this and got it within a few short days (love PRIME) and managed to get those pedals loose in a few seconds. The slight bend in the tool is awesome and prevents you from skinning your knuckles on a pedal/crank/chainring. It’s definitely heavy duty so quality shouldn’t be a concern.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2017This is a decent wrench for the money. However if you run into one pedal that needs a little extra coaxing like I did, you will wish you spent the extra money for the Park Tool wrench. I ended up taking my bike to the LBS. He pulled out the Park Tool wrench and had the stubborn pedal off in seconds. I could not get enough leverage with this wrench. The first pedal loosened easily, the second pedal, not so much...
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2014I don't use a pedal wrench that often, but I sure am glad to have this one when the occasion arises. I really enjoy doing basic maintenance on my vehicles and my bikes, and this tool comes in handy when I'm switching out my clipless pedal systems with normal sneaker pedals.
Makes it easy to switch to easier pedals for short trips and for loaning a bike to a more casual rider/girlfriend.
Buy it! Even if you need it just a few times it's worth having it around to save a headache.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2016I've owned my GIANT for over 10yrs and had not changed the pedals until recently. Certainly overdue, lol. A bit shocked that I spent the money for a tool I may only use two - three times tops BUT it was worth every penny. Took seconds to get my old pedals off, that hadn't been replaced before, and a little longer to get the new pedals on (wonky threading on the pedals). Its a pretty sizable tool, great leverage because of the size. It might come in handy for other things...it is a wrench.
