Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2019Style: 24" Front WheelVerified PurchaseWe bought our front hub E bike conversion kits almost 2 years ago to use at burning man. These kits have proven to last a long time without any problems. Even with the harsh elements of the playa we have continued to use this kit on our trikes without issue on at least a weekly basis. We LOVE THEM!
We have gotten far more enjoyment and use out of the bikes than we ever imagined. Originally we were looking for something just to get us around black rock city so that we could see more the sights on our trip. This is enabled us to visit new restaurants in our area and do fun things like looking at Christmas lights and Halloween lights while trolling through the neighborhood. Fun and relaxed!
Like most people it seems on here we started our bike projects by connecting 3 12 V batteries in series.. This has worked well but the battery pack is about 40 pounds and We are trying to reduce the overall weight on the bikes to add additional accessories that will make our rides more enjoyable. We have considered adding a second battery pack or changing to to lithium ion batteries but have not made a decision yet. For 3 12v 18ah batteries I spent around $100 and lithium ion batteries are hundreds more. I have some decisions to make.
For the overall cost This is an excellent kit and has proven to be of great quality. When I 1st bought this I could only rely on reviews because I knew absolutely nothing about electric bikes and had never owned 1. We get a lot of compliments because our bikes are so unique and because they are mostly do-it-yourself we are not overly concerned that someone is going to steal them. Of course always use a bike lock, every time!
The weight of the batteries and the hub coming in at about 60 pounds together adds quite a bit of weight to the machine if someone doesn't know how to turn it on and make the motor work. If you run out of battery and have to peddle this without the motor assist it is difficult if you are not in tip top shape. You will definitely be getting a workout. Both of us have run out of battery at different times and just get pulled by the other. The motor has no trouble pulling the extra weight.
If you are looking to do your E bike mod yourself this is definitely one you should heavily consider. It was easy to install and took me about 2 hours in total because I decided to make some changes with controller position. My husband and I both set our bikes up separately so they were exactly the way we wanted.
*** I included a picture of the front disk brake which my husband had the local bike shop install for him. Some people in questions had asked if we could add a disk brake and how it looks so here you that we bought was offered by the local Bike shop who we know the owners and got a discount we did not order it from Amazon. I have considered ordering the one that is offered through the same manufacturer as the hub and have not added a disk to mine as of yet.****

- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2024Style: 24" Front WheelVerified PurchaseI installed this on a Sun 7 speed trike. Like another reviewer I had to spread the front forks about 3/16". The rim is considerably wider and requires a tire that is 24 x 2.3 to 2.6. I had trouble finding that. It was so much larger than the original tire that I had to remove the front fender and could no longer use the front rim brakes. Fortunately the hub on this new wheel is engineered for a disk. I live in an area in eastern Kansas where I have slight hills to deal with and found that the rear disk brake was not sufficient. I first tried a 160 mm rotor but that would not allow clearance between the caliper and the hub. A 180 mm rotor just barely made it with a caliper that had a low rear/backside profile. The first caliper I tried hit the hub.
I have no idea how fast it can go. At 79 years old I'm not interested in speed but assisted pedaling going up hills, which I can no longer due on my own.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2024Style: 24" Front WheelVerified PurchaseI got electricuted a little, huge spark melted a 5.mm battery socket for charging my ebike battery when it touched the thick red bat wire's tip accidentally.Spliced wires to connect battery. It lit up but ended up wiring the three ring part wrong and burned out the controller after that. Been two days and seller from ebay nor here, likely same person, has got back to me for replacing the controller...
Cannot find it online so bought a difderent controller. Will update later. Also, the throttle gets in the way of shifting.
Update: was a pain but fixed it eventually. Had to buy parts due to the whole electrical accident thing. Crimped and stripped and attached a new throttle socket and new throttle in general, too hard to find compatible sockets so made one from an srt kit. Had to flip wheel as was stuck in reverse and phase line flipping merely made it shake. I need to fabricate water proof junction boxes for the battery and controller now then it is fine. Be careful not to burn out the controller because you can't find it, the exact one they send, andvthe seller probably would want the whole thing back. They were trying to help but didn't offer new parts as an option when I talked to them and with my alteration of wiring sendimg it back would have been silly so I yeah. Fixed with a 50 USD controller and throttle and such. Was on sale anyway. Oh, it grinds if you are too rough with it but I am heavy, over 300 lbs. It goes at least 17 mph on it's own though is slow to start (unless my speedometer is wrong... )You should assist it until you get moving. Suspending it in the air the thing went to an estimate of 32 mph but fluctuated back to 30 mph as it is supposed to due to legislation I suspect. 17mph is fast for me. My average speed is about 7mph otherwise. I have a magnetic kind of odometer. Before I had an analog odometer/speedometer but it cannot work with this device due to the spokes being how they are. I used xt60 socket to ring terminal for connecting battery the second try. Needed to buy adapters for that. My battery choice it made sense to use them. Bought extra junction box for that last.
PS: use insulated electritian gloves.

5.0 out of 5 stars robust unit , good service
Style: 20" Front WheelVerified Purchaseinstalled on CanadianTire Tango foldable bike. Works good. Not as much torque as the gear bub design; but faster on level road. The hardware is slight beefier than standard bike stuff. A little bit of grinding to make things fit well.
Very good value; recommended for those who are a bit mechanical inclined. This is a throttle only controller; no PAS sensor required.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked with 52v battery
Style: 20" Front WheelVerified PurchaseThe price was so low that I took a chance on this. I had heard mixed information about the possibility of using a 48v battery. I opened up the controller before installing and it had 63v capacitors. I then installed it using my 52v battery and its worked so far! Will report back if it blows up ;) it kind of shutters off the line but smooths out once you moving. Assuming it last ok, I'm very happy with it for the price.
