SOOPER NICE FORK...

SOOPER NICE FORK...
What a good-looking fork - glossy black with pretty stickers on it... It BETTER be good-looking for it's $130 price tag... Yeah, I know, there's ALOT of really nice forks in the $180/200/250 price range... But I'm not trying to spend that much on a bike that I got for [essentially] free... I got the bike about 6 years ago, so adjusting for inflation, corporate markups, and the near-doubled cost of diesel fuel, that cost in today's money would be... uh... free... Anyway... Here's my problem... The bike is a 10-year-old Mongoose, and it uses the old-school 25.4mm/1" threaded fork, within a head tube about 5" long... This is the ONLY - I mean THE ONLY - suspension fork that I have found on Amazon AND EBay with a 25.4mm steer tube... Solid forks all day long, but no suspensions... Everything has gone threadless and bigger... I pull this fork out of the box, and it has a 10" steering tube with 2" of threads at the top... My original fork has a 6" steering tube with 2" of threads at the top... In ALL my years of building and riding bikes, I have NEVER NOT ONCE seen a head tube on a frame longer than 6"... So I paid $130 for a 4" discrepancy that I can't use... BRAINSTORM #1: Send it back... No, wait... let's try... BRAINSTORM #2: Find a machine shop... A local machinist wants $100 to continue the manufacturer's threads for 3 more inches and 20 minutes of his time!!! AM I IN THE WRONG LINE OF WORK!!! And that's ONLY IF he can get over/around/thru the "liability" issues rolling thru his head... WHAT LIABILITY??? BRAINSTORM #3: Buy a 1"x24tpi die, and continue the threads myself... Minimum $40... $40 buxx I don't wanna spend for a 1-time-use product... BRAINSTORM #4: See BRAINSTORM #1... I've got 29 more days to decide this fork's fate...

What bike ever in ever has a long enough frame that this would fix I'll wait. I thought I'll make it work considering it's the only, I mine only suspension bike forks that's threaded online! I'm no machinist so I couldn't make it work. Now I'm stuck $125 less in my bank account but not of anyone's fault but myself

Pretty good fork, way better than the generic one my bicycle came with. Only downside is that mine arrived way, way past its delivery date.

First off this is a decent front suspension fork for the money. Ride is much smoother. As others have commented, tube is long, threads did not reach top of head tube, not that big of a deal for me, retired machinist, so just cut threads deeper and cut off top of tube with pipe cutter. Just beware of length of your head tube. see other comments.

Both the dropouts blew out, turns out, they're made of cast aluminum that seems VERY low quality. The metal at the break appears to be very porous, which means the casting was defective/low quality.

I am building up an old mountain bike from the 90's. Has a one inch headset. Finding a suspension fork has been a chore. A few old ones for sale. But could be getting something that is beat up. This fork is the answer. Seem to work well. Been on a few rides and it does what it is supposed to do. Sure I won't be racing it or doing crazy downhill stuff. But for a decent shock that fits a 1 inch headset this does the trick.
