Customers find these bicycle tires to be of good quality and value for money, with great grip and low rolling resistance. They work well on various terrains, including dirt trails and packed snow-covered roads, and are particularly suitable for gravel and muddy conditions. The tires are easy to install and last for several hundred miles, though opinions on durability are mixed, with some finding them well-made while others report threads wearing apart. Customers note that the size runs small and is significantly narrower than described.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2023I have both 700c and 27" in this Kenda knobby tire . Advertised as 35mm and/or 1 3/8" wide i found them
more like 30-32 mm or 1 1/8"-1 1/4" wide. The tread on rear tire will wear if your ride a lot of pavement.
They work well on packed snow covered roads for winter rides. No complaints.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2015Exactly what I expected. Fits my roadie perfectly, which was designed for 27 x 1-1/4 tires. As other reviewers have stated, the Kenda K161's actually are not actually as wide as the 27 x 1 3/8 size advertised and moulded on the tires, but 27 x 1-1/4. Perhaps they state the larger size because of the additional circumference due to the the large profile treads. However, the treads do not increase the width of the tires. Also as others have commented, the margin between the white sidewall and the black tread area is not quite perfect, with one tire having a very slight flaw and the other not. This does not bother me. Both tires appear to be perfectly round and consistent all around. Rolling resistance surprisingly not compromised as much as I expected from the coarse treads.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2010I bought two pairs of these to outfit two vintage touring bikes for use on gravel and grassy trails as well as paved roads. The tires perform very well on gravel and reasonably smooth hiking trails. At 70 psi, there is only a small penalty in rolling resistance on paved roads compared to higher pressure road tires. The size runs a little small; they actually measure just barely 1 1/4 inch wide and nowhere near the 37 mm metric equivalent on the sidewall. (The old 1 1/8 inch tires actually measured 1 1/8 inch wide on these rims.) Overall, I am happy with both the tires and the reasonable price.
After almost three years, one of the four tires suffered a carcass failure (torn cords). I replaced that pair with a new set of identical tires. I am still quite pleased with this product.
It has been five years and I just had a third carcass failure. (two of the original four and one of the replacement pair) I have liked the tires up to now but have reservations about recommending them. There's not much choice in the 27 x 1 3/8 size and they did give good service up to a point. 50 percent failure rate is high, even for an inexpensive tire. I am reducing my rating from 4 stars to 3 stars.
I have just switched one bike to Club Roost tires. They are a little more expensive but seem to be a step up from the Kendas. They are closer to the actual size and have a continuous center tread for smooth riding on pavement. Knobby side tread only engages on softer surfaces. Hopefully they will have a better service life.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2016Great tire for my old 27" road bike. Fit perfect, but the gumwall doesn't have the straightest line, it just cosmetic though. My 8 mile commute each way is full of rocks, glass and crappy/sloppy road surfaces, so these tires are a godsend. They came unfolded in a big box with nice packing. I have gone through some 10' to 12' stretches of grass/sand and they have been steady. I do run a little lower psi for comfort, but these have a max of 70psi anyways. If you are looking for an inexpensive tire for commuting, then these are a great option.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2024These are exactly the same width as many other brands of 27 x 1 1/4" tires (e.g. Panaracers), not 27 x 1 3/8". Otherwise no complaints.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2014I purchased these to go on my vintage Schwinn World Tour road bike and I have to say I'm pleased with them.
They mounted easily and look pretty good. Wanted a little tougher tire for my 10 mile commute 5 days a week.
I've read other reviews saying the gum walls were uneven but they're perfect. Because this is a new purchase and
I've only logged about 25 miles on them I can't say as to how well they hold up but I don't expect any problems with
these great tires. All and all for the price you won't find a better tire. Kenda got it right with these tires. :)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2012I recently purchased Kenda 161 tires and tubes from Niagara Cycle. I had never used the company before and am usually pretty leery when purchasing online. My items came in and soon after I had a problem with the tire and tube. I emailed Niagara Cycle and received a reply almost instantly. The person I dealt with was extremely pleasant and offered to send out replacement. I received the replacement soon after and everything is great! Niagara Cycle is a standout company and I would recommend them to anyone looking to purchase items for their bicycle.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2015Reviewers say it's good for off pavement and they do well off road...the tag on the tire says for road use and I wouldn't trust these on anything other than that. First these are not 1 3/8...they looked to be less than my old 1 1/4 tires! I will show a comparison pick( the knobby tire is the Kenda). They are defiantly made with low standards as the gum walls (tan side wall) are not uniform and create an uneven wobble. The rubber is lower quality than the 30 year old tires these replaced. I mounted 4 of these on my 10 speed road bikes and hope they last a few years... These are inexpensive and easy to replace so I don't mind but just want to give you a heads up :). I bought the Sunlite thorn resistant tubes made by Kenda and they are awesome...the rubber tube is thicker than these tires! As for these tires, they must be made for bikes you see sold for cheap in the big box stores and I'm sure Kenda sells better quality than these.
UPDATE: gave them a good ride and here's the facts... Still only 2 stars. They did better than I thought on packed gravel and grass but... They are very poorly made. The uneven gum wall isn't only cosmetic! They are so bad they feel like you're riding on bumpy surfaces when on smooth pavement. I will have to remove atleast one tire to return.

5.0 out of 5 stars However the tires themselves are proving to be quite good as winters on my single speeded 70s roadbike
These were expensive to ship to edmonton. 70 dollars duty. However the tires themselves are proving to be quite good as winters on my single speeded 70s roadbike. Seem like they kind of grab onto the ice, even without adding studs as i had originally intended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Piètre qualité, pneus jetables.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, size not as stated - not recommended
Just mounted these up and noticed they are very unbalanced, more on one than the other. It is very visible while spinning the wheel (wish I could post a video), although I've yet to feel it while riding. Only time will tell if this will affect the ride quality (and tire wear).
They're also way undersized, measuring only 28mm (see pic) instead of the stated 35mm. This might change as the tires stretch, but I'm not holding my breath.
Overall I'm very disappointed with this purchase and would not recommend these tires even for just the poor build quality.

One tire is ok the other has a bit of a warp which can be felt when riding.
