WALD
Wald bicycle baskets, racks, and fenders provide simple solutions to a complex global problem and can help you make the world a better place. Installing a bicycle basket allows you to bring home gallons of milk instead of burning through tanks of gas and drums of oil.
Wald strives to make products the majority of cyclists can use on their bicycles and become more functional at the same time. The biggest challenge we face in this effort is the lack of a universal standard. Bikes from various manufacturers may look the same, but the moment you pull out a tape measure it quickly becomes apparent that all bicycles are not created equal. While we believe our products can be installed by almost anyone, we recommend you have your local bike shop install your product at the time of purchase.

Be an Integral Part of Our Legacy
Bicycle baskets were not the first product Wald invented. Rather, it was a bicycle tire repair tool. But it didn’t take long for Grandpa Ewald and Uncle Herman to recognize what a difference the bicycle basket could be.
Nobody quite remembers exactly when or why, but one day Grandpa Ewald and Uncle Herman decided it was time to move on. The little shop Wald Cycle Company grew up in served the brothers well. The people of Sheboygan, Wisconsin loved their two-wheeled citizens, but Grandpa and Uncle Herman needed something new. A new product idea was always welcome, but this itch needed a bigger scratch. They had greater aspirations for their business.

Great Basket and Here are some install tips...

- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2015Color: WhiteVerified PurchaseJust got this yesterday so I will add another review in the future based upon use over time.
Pros:
- Good design (details below)
- Good finish
- Good hardware, welded construction
- Flexibility
- Great value for price
- Mounting bracket looks good and unobtrusive with basket removed.
Cons:
- The screws should be stainless and the mounting bracket parts should be painted over the zinc.
- lower support bracket would be better is pad and or column mount bracket was included and contact area was curved instead of flat (see solution below)
- Since basket prevent mounting of headlight an adapter for mounting handle style headlamps would be nice. (See solution below)
I read many reviews before purchasing this...I would have preferred stainless but not at the prices offerred. I would love this if it were offerred in a stainless version even for 50% more. I spent more time than needed to install as I made some improvements outlined below if your interested. These were needed for my particular application but suspect common to many users. I also included some pictures as it is not clear from all that I read of how things really go together. The main point being that the backet handle closest to the handlbars has an extended piece that engages the top loop of the mounting braket to hold it in place. A clever design.
I found my finished assembly very stable and thought this was a strong basket with very quick release of the basket yet no compromise in solidity and no plastic. I suspect over time the contact areas will wear through the paint and rust will quicly set in...expecially since this is used on a beach bike riding on saltwater coastal areas.
Some comments:
-There is no grip on the carry handle and this will cause difficulty if used with a heavy load carrying for an extended time...but easy to improvise your own solution.
-The initial installation of the basket required me to locate and press down hard causing the metal bars to flex slightly to get the handle tab to get into it's matching engagement loop (see picture of this to understand how basket is retained) This was okay since it provided for a very firm secure fit that would elliminate rattles.
-The lower support bracket is intended to rest against something but in my case I felt this was a weak point of the design...it is flat and would rest against the steering post and slide...it should have a radius for centering. If installed per the instructions the handle bar support arm would not be solid enough or the basket would be resting on the fender. I installed it upside down (see pictures) and it rests on the collar of the top steering bearing...but I went one step further and used the reflector mounts that came with the bike as a support and then tie-wrapped the bracket to them...very solid...if the plastic will take the load...time will tell.
-I found my handle bars had a larger radius than the rubber protectors so I placed the gap facing forward where there is no clamping force and as they compress they stretch into place without rippling.
-I could no longer mount my headlight due to interference with basket and no mounting space on the bars. My solution (see pictures) was to saw slits in a champagne cork down one side to the middle and then 90 degrees up halfway. This then slides on the basket and has the same dimensions as the handle bar...it is water proof...it is clapped together by the headlight clamps...it can be moved for adjustment and will stay in place. This suggestion only requires one to celebrate with a bottle of champagne and keep the cork!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2014This the first basket I've ever used on a bike. I'm a backpack kinda guy. Well I'm still using my backpack, it now sits in my Wald basket. I just love this basket, I bought two of them. Both were installed on MTB's with front suspension. The basket itself is, when sitting on your seat, 14.5" wide by 9.5" long by 9" depth. It tapers down 9" to the bottom of the basket to 11.5" wide by 7" long. The mounting bracket mounts and offsets the basket approx. 2.25" from the handle bar. It does not at all interfere with the cables, four of them on my bike, for the brakes and gears. A supporting "Brace" as they call it is designed to ride on the handle bar gooseneck. It is not physically attached the gooseneck, it just rests against the gooseneck supporting the basket so the mounting bracket will not rotate at the handle bar. The brace itself is welded to a plate that bolts to the mounting bracket. It is permanently set at about 45* or 135* off the vertical bracket depending on which direction you mount the brace (see pictured at 45* if flipped over then you have 135*). The brace then has a vertical travel along the bracket of approx. 3.5". Depending on how much actual gooseneck you have exposed will determine how to best locate and orient the brace. Do not locate the brace so as to ride or rest on the frame, it will surely scratch it up. If riding with basket empty or lightly loaded you will probably hear some chatter coming off the brace/gooseneck. If this bothers you then take short bungy cord and secure the bracket to gooseneck. The basket itself easily attaches and detaches from the bracket by lifting the handle to full vertical, straight up. If concerned that if you hit a big bump and maybe bounce the handle high enough to cause the basket slip out well just take a bread bag twist tie and secure it down. This basket will easily handle most things you will probably carry. I've carried small watermelons, books, tools, groceries, many things. I'm not positive but to give you an idea of volume you can probably fit six half gallons of milk and a bunch candy bars easily in the basket. Just remember the more weight you carry will definitely affect your to steering.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2023Color: WhiteVerified PurchaseI like that this basket was easy to install on my electric bike and it doesn't feel like it will fall off. I got this to put my 10 lb chihuahua in while going for a bike ride. He loves it but it's a little narrow and he can't lay down comfortably. I wish it was wider at the bottom, but it seems like all the baskets I researched were like this. I recommend this if you have a small dog who's not afraid of bike rides and won't jump out, but you will need to put a cushion at the bottom since the metal would hurt their legs to sit on.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2024Color: WhiteVerified PurchaseI got this in the Apollo to compare them because the Apollo is half the price. Well first of all you can tell the Apollo was trying to copy the wald. However at its most important function which is locking the basket in the Apollo is rattly and loose where the Wald is secure and solid. If you want a removable basket spend the money and get the Wald

The basket is quick release, but I zip tied the basket down to make it somewhat permanent. Good basket for light loads only.
